Text: Daniel 3:26-27
Subject: I've been in the fire, but I don't smell like smoke!!!
When God is with you and has his hand on you, the situations that you face won't harm you nor destroy you. That's why the Bible declares in Isaiah 54:17, "No weapon that is formed against thee shall be able to prosper... so, you may experience something that took others out, but you will survive. There are people that have gone through what you have gone through, but they didn't make it out, but God somehow sustained you in situations that were designed to destroy you, but you came out with the testimony that ‘what didn't kill you only made you stronger’! In the text Daniel and his friends: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego have been taken from Jerusalem and exiled in Babylon. While in exile (bondage) they have been elevated along with Daniel (who is ruler over the province of Babylon and placed in charge of the wise men) and they were his assistants. God has a way of even giving you favor from your enemies (elevated in a strange land). King Nebuchadnezzar made an image/statue of gold (ninety feet high and nine feet wide) and he arranged to have a dedication of the image where all the officials would worship this golden image. During this dedication he set up and issued a decree that as soon as the music played everyone was ordered to bow down and worship the golden statue. When the music played everyone else bowed down except Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Even though they were in Babylon, they were still Hebrews and to worship the golden image would have meant they would be worshipping an idol God. As Hebrews, they were worshippers of the one true and living God. They knew they would be thrown in the fiery furnace, but they trusted God anyhow. They made the declaration, "If it be so, our God whom we serve is ABLE TO DELIVER US from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us out of thine hand, O King, but if not, be it known unto thee, O King, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up." They were really saying that God was able to deliver them, but even if He doesn’t, we still won't bow down! The King was furious at them and ordered that they be thrown in the fiery furnace fully clothed and then the King turned up the heat seven times hotter than usual. The enemy wants to turn up the heat in your situation, but he does not realize that it is an open door for the Lord to step into your situation! They were in the fire, but they were not in the fire by themselves. The Lord stepped into it with them! The men that were putting them in the fiery furnace were killed because the fire and flames were so hot. The Hebrew boys were thrown in the fiery furnace, and the King was astonished because he said, "Did not we cast in three men bound into the midst of the fire?” “Yes. O King,” they replied. “Lo, I see four men LOOSE, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God." There is something significant in the text because verses 26-27 show us a powerful illustration and an even greater miracle. Yes; they were in the fiery furnace fully clothed and yes, they came out; but watch the text, because the fire had no power over them, their hair was intact, their clothes did not burn (change), and they didn't even smell like smoke! They were in all that fire and all of those flames and for them not to smell like smoke means the thing that was designed to destroy them didn't even touch them! You have been through some stuff and the people around you can't even tell what you have been through because you’ve been through the fire, but you don't smell like smoke!
