Sunday Message Summary

Speaker: Pastor T.C. Johnson

Date: Sunday, March 2, 2025

Topic: "The Other Side of Life's Mountains

Scripture: Hebrews 12:1-2 (KJV)

From the desk of Pastor T.C. Johnson

Scripture Reading - Hebrews 12:1-2 (KJV)

1  Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Sermon Summary

The writer of Hebrews presents life in the analogy of a foot race in an arena where the bleachers are filled with former runners. They have finished the race themselves and are now witnesses cheering those who are still in the race of a faithful life. Read chapter eleven (11) to see a list of some of the names of those who are in the bleachers and the mountains they had to deal with. The Mountain is something that threatens to impede or possibly prohibit the runner’s forward progress or at the least, make the race so much harder to run. One of the things that we learn is that every believer must be prepared to encounter mountains, so don’t set up camp in Pity-Me Park. Rather, consider people like Abraham who had to deal with Mt Moriah, or Elijah, who had to deal with Mt Carmel. The text instructs us to look to Jesus and the way He endured His Mountain (Mt Calvary, the cross). Jesus did not focus on the mountain; he considered the joy on the other side which must have been encouragement to continue the race.

Be Blessed,

Pastor T.C. Johnson
